I was delighted to accompany Diane Smith at her table as she was honored by the CT Women’s Hall of Fame. Among the honorees was world famous photographer Annie Leibovitz, who accepted her award with tears. So imagine me, taking a picture of “Diane and Annie” and my camera starts acting up. Cavernous, dark ballroom, glaring bright stage lights behind the women… booming loudspeaker telling everyone to sit down …
Remember the story about Leibovitz photographing Queen Elizabeth and the uproar she caused when she asked the queen to remove her crown for a photograph?
All I wanted the women to do was have the women stand a little closer to block out a giant stage light behind them.
Suffice it to say it was a terrific night. And a learning experience. World famous photographers hate being the subject.
